Jesus Took The Judgement

Genesis 7:19-21

19 And the waters overcame[1] more[2] (and) more[3] over the earth, and all the high mountains were covered[4].  20 The waters overcame fifteen cubits (or about 6.9 metres) above the mountains and they were covered… 21 And all flesh breathed its last breath[5]… the creeping things on the earth, with the birds and with the animals and with the living (things) and with all the swarming things[6] that were swarming[7] on the earth and all mankind…

Application

I wonder what it was like… the realisation that every other living thing on earth was perishing while Noah and his floating zoo glided above the carnage?

The water just kept coming, more and more, “very, very” in the Hebrew, well, the literal translation of the Hebrew.  All the high mountains were cover, the highest by 15 cubits which is about seven metres (interestingly a giraffe grows to about 5.5 metres… and there may have been a species of sauropod that was 36.6 meters, but at 62.5 tonnes, there was probably little chance of it succeeding in the ascent of Mt Everest anyway…. Which leads to yet another question, “Did dinosaurs become extinct in the flood, were they already extinct? or were there indeed some on the ark?)

Still, the point is that this was a day that must have been heart wrenching, as all creation not on the boat perished.

Sin has consequences, and, if God is God, it doesn’t really matter what I think is right or wrong, because I’m not going to reach God’s standard of perfection.  There is an ark ready for me.  Its name is the cross of Calvary.

Jesus died and gives me His righteousness so that I can face the Father God at His judgement throne and be declared pure and righteous, perfect, as if I’ve never sinned.  The choice is always man’s… all people have to do is to call on the name of Jesus to be saved, otherwise they declare their own sentence.

Prayer

Father, please give me Your heart for people and Your understanding of both sin and grace.  Again, I ask to be set on fire for You.  Please let me have a heart for those who are perishing and act upon the urgency to see them brought to Jesus.

In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
