34 And he said, “I’m Abraham’s slave, 35and (The Lord) Yahweh has blessed my owner and master very much, and he’s become great.” He’s given him sheep and goats, cattle, silver, gold, (male) slaves, female slaves, camels and donkeys. 36 Sarah, my owner and master’s wife, gave birth to a son for my owner and master after her old age and he gave him everything that belonged to him. 37 And my owner and master made me promise with an oath, saying, ‘Don’t take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites where I’m living in their land.
Abraham’s slave revealed his identity and his lot in life as Abraham’s slave.
We’re all slaves to something… The New testament talks about us either being a slave to sin or a slave to righteousness. It’s not a matter of escaping slavery, but on of choosing who and what I’ll be a slave to. I may be free in the sense of this world, but I’m to choose to be the slave of Christ Jesus and righteousness.
Abraham’s slave spoke of how Yahweh had blessed his master with every good thing, how Sarah had had a miraculous birth of Isaac in her old age, that Abraham was the father… and also that Isaac had inherited it all!
One doesn’t work for or deserve an inheritance. It comes as a matter of birthright and the will of the estate owner. My inheritance is also with Christ Jesus, who owns the sheep and cattle on a thousand hills… I assume that’s a lot… Mind you, He owns everything.
And the slave went on to say how he had made a promise with an oath that he wouldn’t take a wife from the locals in Canaan for Isaac.
Father, I need you and I ask for Your approval, not man’s. Please help me to lay my whole life down to serve You. Thank you that You are in control, and thank you that You have blessed me greatly and made me great in many ways. Please give me Your word for today and guide every step that I take.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
