The Founders of Arabia
Joktan’s sons continued in these two verses. He was father to Hadoram (whose name meant “noble honour”), Uzal (whose name meant “I’ll be flooded), Diklah (whose name meant “palm grove”), Abal (whose name meant “stripped bare”), Abimael (whose name meant “my father is God”) and Sheba (whose name meant “seven or oath”).
These men started nations in Arabia, and yet to me they are just meaningless names. Yet somehow, in all these names, I’m meant to be able to see the greater purpose for myself and for others… the plans that you have for them for good and not for evil, to give them a hope and a future.
Thank you, Father, for these men who you gave to Joktan. It’s easy to forget that these are people who had struggles and lived, but also men who founded nations.
Thank you, Father, that You have made me a part of a Holy Nation, whose head is Your Son Jesus. Please help me to live Your way, speak You way, and please even give me Your thoughts. Thank you that I have the mind of Christ… Please help me to use that instead of my own mind. Please help me to crucify the old man and live for You.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
