33 And they made their father drunk (with wine) that night and the firstborn (daughter went in and lay with her father, and he didn’t know when she lay down, and when she got up. 34 And it was, the next day, the firstborn (daughter) said to the younger, “Look, last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him drunk tonight, too, and you go in in and lie with him and we’ll keep a seed from our father alive.
Somehow the Bible seems to try and make this act by the girls seem honourable… keeping a seed alive from their father, Lot, who was old and had no son. Anyway, they got him drunk and the eldest slept with him, apparently without him knowing when she lay down with him and when she got up. Then she got her younger sister and said, “Well, I had sex with our father last night. Let’s get him drunk again, and this time it’s your turn!”
How does one get something spiritual out of that?
OK, beats me!!
So, the Bible puts it all out there, the good, the bad and the ugly… God doesn’t pretend that I’m good, He just accepts me as I am with all my faults, sins and imperfections. I need to keep remembering that it’s God’s righteousness, that of Jesus, which makes me righteous, and my stature has nothing to do with how good I am.
It’s also worth noting that there’s nothing I can do that is able to disqualify me from God’s grace and mercy… all I need to do is believe in Jesus and turn from sin by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Father, thank you that you are in control. Thank you that when things are bad, it’s the very time I need you most, and you promise to be with me. Even if it’s been my sin and my fault, You’re there to help me. Please forgive me, and be my present help in all I go through.
In Jesus’ name. Amen
