The Day God Rested!

Genesis 2:1-3

1 The heavens and the earth were finished[1], and all their army, 2 and on the seventh day God finished[2] His work[3] that He’d done, and He stopped[4] on the seventh day from all His work that he’d done. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because, in it, He stopped all His work, which God created to do.

Application

The heavens and the earth were finished.  There was nothing left to be done in the work of creation, and God stopped work… took a weekend… He stopped from ALL His work that he’s done.

God blessed and set apart the seventh day, intending not to work… and we will find that he also wanted no work to be done on it by anyone.

Just one interest point of literal Hebrew that I note, “God stopped all His work, which He had created to do.”  I sort of love that.  It’s almost like God had nothing to do, so he created some work, and made the universe in the process… taking six days to do it… Then, He stopped… as if it no longer needed His attention and could function on its own.

How I align this with the Scripture that says that God, “He who keeps Israel, will neither slumber nor sleep,” I don’t know… but it appears that God can look after me in His rest.

The take away for me is that if God needed to stop work on the seventh day, then I sure need to.  How am I going with that whole idea of a day off, and resting?  What’s it supposed to look like?

Prayer

Father, please teach me Your ways, especially about work, and about stopping from all my work.  I need You in everything, and I ask that You will lead me on Your righteous paths, and enable me to be a blessing to You and those You put with me.  Please surround me with the right people to assist in accomplishing what You want (as opposed to just what I want).
