26 And God said, “Let us make
the man in our image,
in our likeness ,
and let (people)
the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the animals and
all the earth, and over all the reptiles and insects
on the earth. 27 And God created the man in His image. He created him in the image of God. He created them … male
Once again, today, the Hebrew is fascinating, to say the least. Here’s the way it reads. God (plural) said, “Let us make the man (singular) in our (plural) image. Let them (referring to man, plural) rule over (everything)… And God created the man (singular) in His (singular) image. He created the man (singular) in His image. He created them (plural)… male and female.
God created man to rule over everything. Even this is beyond my comprehension, because man was without any technology, and yet given dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky and everything that lived on ALL the earth. How could man do this?
It appears to me that Adam, “the man” (“Adam” is just the word for “man,” and “ha adam” is what God created… i.e. “the man”)… so, Adam had much greater spiritual or authoritative power than any man that has since existed. The only conceivable way that Adam could have controlled all creation was to speak, and it would have happened… i.e. Adam was made in the image of God. God spoke and things happened, things were created. Adam spoke, and creation was ruled. I must learn to be careful with my words.
In Christ, I have the restored power of Adam. I have the authority to speak, and I have the dominion to rule… There are conditions, however. I need to be aligned with God (sin dealt with) and submitted (obedient) to God.
Father, please teach me Your ways. Please help me to live a life aligned with Your purposes. If there is any sin at all that I need to deal with, please reveal it to me and help me to repent and renounce it. I break every power of Your enemies over me, and ask that my heart might be soft enough to obey you immediately. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
