Psalm 146:1-11
A song of Praise Written by King David
1 My God and my King, I will lift you up!
I will adore your name forever and ever.
2 I will adore you every day
And I will go crazy praising[1] your name forever and ever.
3 The Lord is great and (people are to) go exceedingly crazy praising[2] (him);
His greatness can’t be investigated.
4 Generation (after) generation will praise (what you) do[3];
They will make the mighty (things you do) known.
5 I will seriously think about your honour, majesty,
And your miracles.
6 (People) will speak (about) the power of your awesomeness,
And I will talk (about) your greatness.
7 They will pour out their memory of your exceeding prosperity,
And they will shout out (about) your justice.
8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
Slow to get angry and he is abounding[4] with goodness and kindness.
9 The Lord is good to everyone;
His compassion is over everything he has made.
10 Lord, everything you have made will thank you,
And (those who are) faithful will kneel to praise you.
11 They will speak (about) the honour and glory of your kingdom
And they will talk (about) your strength

Application
How can I continue to live my own life, doing whatever I want, if God is my God and King? A king in the ancient times had supreme power over life and death. The subjects had free choice. They either chose to do what the king wanted or they chose to die.
I need a fresh understanding of who God is and his awesome power. I should be lifting him up to the highest place in my life every moment and adoring him. I have witnessed his greatness, both to me and to others. I have seen his power at work in me and in others. There is a responsibility, therefore to tell everyone just how great he is. I will never be able to do so with accuracy because it’s impossible to find out just how great he is.
Not only is he great, but he is merciful. He took me at the time when I deserved to die and gave me life. He has given me a hope and a future and everything I stand for is tied up in who he is.
He hasn’t come to judge me and punish me. He has come to give me a chance to get right with him and to live for him. Therefore, I need to turn to him and love his way rather than my own. I need to bow before him in praise and speak about all he has done and all he continues to do for me.
Prayer
Father, you are great. You have done great things for me and I am nowhere near glad enough. Thank you for your power at work in me to make me more like you. Thank you that you have an excellent plan and a future for me and that you are calling me to be with you for my own good rather than for yours. Teach me your ways and fill me Holy Spirit.
IJN Amen
