No Time To Get Depressed!

Psalm 90:1-8
A Prayer written by Moses, God’s man
1 Owner and Master, you have been our place to live for generation (after) generation
2 Before the mountains were born,
(Before) you gave birth to the earth and the world.
You were, you are and you will be mighty God forever and ever.[1]
3 You turn people back into dust
And say, “Be turned back, children of men.”
4 In your eyes, a thousand years
Is like yesterday when it passes by like a night watch.
5 You have poured them out like a flood and they go[2] to sleep
In the morning they are like grass that quickly sprouts again.
6 In the morning it sprouts again and grows
And at sunset it is cut down and dries up.
7 We have been eaten by your anger
And terrified by your rage.
8 You have put our wickedness in front you
(you have put what we did) in secret in the light of your presence.
[1] “from everlasting to everlasting you are God (Strong One/Mighty) [2] “become”
Application
Moses is writing this psalm and says that the people have lived in God for generation after generation. Therefore, this points to the people trusting in God as their refuge in slavery in Egypt as well as in freedom prior to that. Regardless of how bad my situation, God is there and I can depend on him. He is the eternal God. There’s nothing new to him, especially since he created everything. Not only that, but he will always be there.
He determined that men would return to the ground that they were made from. I need to realise the brevity of life and make every moment count. I can’t afford to get depressed and waste the time that God has given me. Nor can I afford to spend time on the wrong things. I need to find out what God wants me to do and do it.
God is the ultimate judge. Even if things go well by human standards in the world, I still have to face God’s judgement where every hidden thing I have ever done will be exposed unless it is covered by Christ’s blood.
Therefore, the most important thing I ever do in this life, above every other thing, is to ensure I am right with God by believing in Jesus AND making him my Owner and Master. What a privilege to have every secret sin washed away and every blemish covered over!
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving me so much that you allowed your only son to go through the humiliation that he suffered for me. Thank you for your forgiveness and thank you that you are the eternal God who never changes. Please fill me with Holy Spirit power to live for you and be effective in this life, despite its brevity. Please enable me to be someone who changes the world I live in for your good purposes and for the benefit of the people who live in it.
IJN Amen
