No Lasting Joy In Evil & Death is Demonic!

Psalm 16

Written by King David – A Mikhtam[1]

¹ Watch over me Mighty God. I run to you for protection.

² I said to the Lord, “You are my owner and master. I have nothing of value (besides) you. ³ The (ones) who are set apart for you on earth are great and I (get) all my pleasure (from them).

⁴ (Those who) traded[2] (you for) another (god) will have a lot of suffering. (But) I won’t pour out the drink offerings of blood (that they give) and I won’t bring their names to my lips.

⁵ The Lord is my assigned share of the inheritance and my cup. You hold my allotment ⁶ and the borders (of my land) have fallen in beautiful (places). My property is really[3] beautiful.

⁷ I will bless the Lord who advised me. My inner being also[4] corrects me at night. ⁸ I have placed the Lord in front of me because his right hand will not be moved.

⁹ So I am happy inside, it’s my joyful honour and my body lives in safety, too.

¹⁰ You won’t leave me in the grave and you won’t give up your Holy One to be decomposed. ¹¹ You’ll make the road to life known to me. Abundant joy is in your presence and in you right hand are lovely things that last forever.

Application

As I recognise that there is no other protection, no other hope for eternity and no other place to find joy and peace than God, I will tend to run to him and make him more and more important in my life.

I have nothing of value apart from him and yet there are things that I treasure. I can’t afford to have these idols in my life.

I am to delight in those who love and serve God and in his angelic beings. God has given me the option to find joy where I want to find it. However, there is no lasting joy in evil and death ultimately comes from the demonic, which is so prevalent in society today. I am not to share in the evil spiritual things on TV or in movies and I am not to partake in other religious festivals. They all lead to death.

The Lord is all I need. He has given me a beautiful inheritance. He has guided me and corrected me, bringing me great joy and life. In him I find true happiness and safety.

In him I find eternal life and most importantly I come to realise that he gave his Son for me – a Son who didn’t decay in the grave but rose to life so that I too could share in that inheritance of eternal life.

I will find abundance of joy as I seek God’s presence and he will give me the best stuff that will last forever.

Prayer

Father I choose to put you in first place. I choose to honour you and give my life to you. I hand over to you all those things that I treasure in this life. I give them to you to be destroyed as gods in my life and all I have is only to be used to bring you glory – held loosely because only you matter.

Thank you for your life in me and your goodness to me. Thank you for the gift of your Holy One – your only Son who died in my place and rose so that I could have life and be restored to you.

You are my joy and my hope for everything.
