It's Good to Be Honest With God!

Psalm 28

Written by King David

1 I call to you Lord, my huge rock.  Don’t refuse to hear[1].  (Because if) you’re silent I will be like (a person who) goes down a hole in the ground. 2 Hear my voice asking for your kindness as I cry to you for help and as I lift up my hand toward the most holy place (that is) set apart for you.

3 Don’t drag me away with the wicked who make trouble and speak peace and safety to other people while evil is inside. 5 Give them (what their) work) deserves.  Give them the things their hands have done.  Return to them what they have done 5 because they don’t understand the Lord’s work or what he does[2].  He will tear them down and not build them up.

6 Praise the Lord because he heard my voice asking for his kindness. 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield.  My inner being trusts in him and I am helped. So I am filled with joy.  My song will thank him.

8 The Lord is their strength.  He saves the (person) he has poured oil on and set apart and he is a place safety for them.

9 Save you people.  Bless (those) who share in your inheritance.  Be their shepherd and carry them forever[3].

[1] “be deaf” [2] “hands works” [3] “as far as long”

Application

When it appears that God isn’t listening to my prayers I still need to keep pressing on and keep calling out to him.  It’s good to be honest with God.  This life is not a positive thinking exercise where I say “Everything’s good, everything’s good.” and yet my world is crashing and burning all around me.  The positive ultimately comes from the fact that, although everything is crashing and burning, God is in control and I don’t have to panic.  The truth will set me free and the major truth is that God is in control and that nothing can hurt me.  The other truth is that there’s a lot of evil out there and I need God to rescue me, and he will.

God hears me when I cry to him for help, when I ask him to show his kindness and provide for my needs.  He is my strength.  I don’t have strength in myself.  No matter how physically or emotionally strong I am, things will come that I can’t overcome in my own strength.  However, he always leads me triumphantly in Christ.  He will tear down every opposition to his plan for my life.  The thing is that I need to be trying to achieve his plan for my life or otherwise I might find myself fighting against God.  He fills me with victory so that I thank him as I sing to him with joy in my heart for all he’s done.

Then I call on him to save those in my family and those for whom I have some sort of responsibility.  It’s my job to ask God to save others.

Prayer

Father, thank you that you are my strength and my shield.  Thank you that you are the one who brings me through every situation and helps me in every conceivable way.  Lord, I offer myself to you to use me in any way you want.  You have saved me and you have brought me into life. Please show me all you want me to do.

Please save my family and my friends.  Be their strength and be their help forever.

IJN Amen
