Psalm 70
Written by King David – For the Choir Director
To preserve a memory
1 Rescue me, God!
Come quickly to help me Lord!
2 Let (those who) are looking to kill me[1] be ashamed and embarrassed.
Let (those who) want to do wrong to me be turned away[2].
3 Let (those who) say “Aha! Aha!” be sent back because of the shameful thing (they’ve done).
4 Let all (those who) look for you rejoice and be happy in you.
Let (those who) love your salvation continually say, “Let God be made greater.”
5 I am poor and needy.
God, come quickly to help me!
Rescue me Lord!
Don’t delay!
[1] “seek soul”, [2] “turned back”
Application
God is my hope for rescue. When all seems impossible, I need to know nothing is too hard for God and he’s still in control. When darkness comes and things threaten my life and/or my future, I need to know that God is with me. He’s fighting for me and he never loses even one fight. I am always on the winning side. The best is always in front of me.
It’s an eternal truth. While I live, God is storing up better and better things for me. He gives me strength to make wealth. He commands my strength. He works all things together for good. He has seated me in the heavenly places with Christ Jesus to rule. He has made me a joint heir with Christ of the whole universe. If everything is God’s, then everything is mine in Christ.
When I face trouble, I need to call on Mighty God who rescues me. He is my hope for joy and happiness. I make him greater by praising him and by making people more aware of who he is. His level of greatness on earth is determined by the people who are here to praise him. Naturally, nothing can affect his power and ultimate position because, in the eternal realm, he is already ALL powerful and ALL mighty. There is none greater than him.
However, despite his position and greatness, he delights to know me personally and is available to help me in my time of need. When I’m in trouble, God should always be my first and last port of call.
Prayer
Father, please come to help me. I’m not really feeling in desperate need, but I know that you are my only hope for real help. Please come quickly to help me in the mundane and everyday things of life. Please rescue me in my work and from my bad decisions. Please supply my needs. Please show up when I pray for people, even if it’s just a family prayer. God you are greater, but be even greater in my mind and in the mind of those around me because of the evidence of your Holy Spirit living in me.
IJN Amen
