If God Provides, Why Not Ask HIM?

Psalm 71:1-12
1 God, I have run to you for protection;
Don’t let me ever be put to shame.
2 Snatch me away and rescue me in your justice;
Stretch your ear (to hear) and save me.
3 Be my huge rock to live on, that I can keep coming to[1];
You have given orders to save me,
You are my fort (on a) cliff.
4 God, rescue me out of the hand of wicked (people),
Out of the hand of the (person who does) wrong and from the cruel (person).
5 Lord God, you are my hope,
You have been my security (since) I was young.
6 You have supported me (since I was) born;
You cut me out of my mother’s belly.
I sing praise to you all the time.
7 I have become a wonder
(Because) you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is full of songs of praise for you
And (it’s full of songs about) your beauty all day.
9 Don’t throw me away when I get old[2];
Don’t leave me when my strength vanishes.
10 My enemies have talked against me,
(Those who) look to kill me have planned it together,
11 Saying, “God has left him.
Run after him and catch him.
He has no one to rescue him.”
12 God, don’t be far away from me;
God, come quickly to help me.
[1] “rock dwelling continually/perpetuity come”, [2] “time old age”
Application
God is my protection. God is the only one who can protect my reputation. God is the only one who can come to my rescue. He may do it through people, provision, a doctor, but however it happens, I need to recognise that it’s God.
Recognising that it’s God who provides and saves me in every situation, why wouldn’t I spend a considerable proportion of my time crying out to him, or at least asking him, for his help?
God has already given the orders to save me. I might not see the rescue team at hand, but he has given the command. If God has commanded it, then it will certainly happen. If the rescue team is on the way, sent by God, why would I worry or be afraid? Why would I doubt God’s goodness? Why would I work till I drop when God has already promised and told me to enter his rest?
I even have the benefit of past experience to substantiate my faith. God has rescued me before, he promises to rescue me now, why would I try to rescue myself?
God has even made me great. I know some people sit there and ask, “How could that happen to him?” But, because of God’s strength, protection and favour, God has given me opportunity and worked through me in ways that are miraculous. God is great! My mouth should be filled with songs that give him praise and tell about his goodness and beauty. He doesn’t leave me no matter how weak I am.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you make me great. Thank you that you do this despite my incapacity to be the person that even I want to be, let alone who you want me to be. Please fill me Holy Spirit and continue to change me to be more like you. Thank you that you never leave me, that you protect me from those who plot against me and that you have commanded my rescue in every situation. I am putting my trust in you.
IJN Amen
