I Can Depend On God – He is GOOD!

Psalm 27

¹ The Lord is my light and he saves me. Who will I fear[1]? The Lord protects my life. Who will I be afraid of?[2] ² (When) bad (people), my enemies and opponents, came to eat my flesh they stumbled and fell.

³ Even though an army (comes) and lays a siege against me, I will not fear in my inner being[3]. Even though a war is carried out against me, I will trust in this. ⁴ I desire one (thing that) I asked the Lord for: That I live in his house all the days of my life and see the Lord’s kindness, favour and beauty as I seek him in His temple.

⁵ In the day of trouble, he will hide me in his home[4]. He will keep me hidden in the hiding place in his tent. He will lift me up (and put me) on a huge rock. ⁶ Now my head will be lifted up over my enemies around me. I will offer sacrifices in his tent with shouts of triumphant joy and singing. I will sing praises[5] to the Lord.

⁷ Lord, hear (when I) call with my voice. Have mercy and answer me.

⁸ You said, “Find my presence.[6]”

And I said, “Lord, I will find your presence. ⁹ Don’t hide your presence[7] from me. Don’t turn your slave away in anger[8]. You have been my help. Don’t abandon me or leave me, God (who) saves me.

¹⁰ My father and mother have left me but the Lord will receive me. ¹¹ Teach me your ways, Lord.

Lead me on a level path on account of my enemies. ¹² Don’t give my soul to my opposition[9]. Lying witnesses and (those) who breathe out violence have risen (against me). ¹³ However[10], I am sure I will see the Lord’s goodness, prosperity and joy in the land of the living.

¹⁴ Eagerly wait for the Lord. Strengthen yourself inside and be brave!

Application

The Lord is good. The Lord is good! He is a light and he saves from the most dire circumstances. Nothing is too difficult for the Lord. If God is for me, who do I fear? If God is for me, who can be against me? No enemy can even begin to penetrate his protection around me. I am the only one that can put myself in danger. God is with me. The mighty creator of the universe is here. He loves in me and he fights for me.

I need only one thing and that is to remain in constant fellowship with him. If I am living with him, hearing from him, being protected by him, learning his ways and doing what he says, what can possibly go wrong?

He’s with me even when things appear to be going wrong… but they’re not. He is in control. All things work together for good for me because I am called according to God’s purposes. He will hide me in his very presence, in his home. He lives in me but I also live in him. What an amazing relationship! He will lift me up to defeat every enemy. I just have to trust in him and look for his presence.

I need to be always seeking his face, looking for his presence… that’s my one and only task. If I do that and nothing more, I will never be alone again. I will never have to worry or fear again. Everyone might leave me, but God never will.

I can eagerly wait for God, because I can depend on him. I can be brave. I can find courage inside because I have a positive expectation that God will do good and he never lies.

Prayer

Father, lead me on a level path. Teach me your ways. Reveal yourself to me. To be with you, to know you, to live in you and have you love in me is the one thing that I ask from you – I want to know your presence in my life and experience your favour.

Fill me with you Holy Spirit and enable me to be all that you want to be in me and through me. I am your vessel.
