Definition of a Fool = “God didn’t Make It!”

Psalm 53

Written by King David – For the Choir Director
A Maskil (which possibly has to do with understanding or pondering OR may be to do with performance)

1 Foolish (people) have said in their mind[1], “(There is) no God.”

They’re (morally) rotten and do detestable wrong.

No one does good.

2 God looked down on mankind[2] from heaven

to see (if anyone) exists (who) is wise or (who) looks for God.

3 Everybody[3] has turned away together and become morally corrupt.

No one does good, not one.

4 Don’t those who make trouble know….

Those who eat my people like they eat bread

And (who) haven’t called out to God?

5 They were terrified there (where there) had been no fear.

God scattered the bones of (the people) who laid siege (against) you.

You put them to shame because God had rejected them.

6 O let[4] Israel’s salvation (come) from Zion.

When God brings back his captive people,

Jacob will rejoice and Israel will be very happy.

[1] “inner man/mind/will/heart” [2] “sons of Adam” [3] “all” [4] “who give”

Application

Only a fool says that God doesn’t exist.  The very best a human being can say truthfully is that out of all the things they have seen, felt or heard so far, nothing has convinced them that there is a God, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist.

On the other hand, I would say, in my experience God has proves his existence through his healing power, his love, his word to me, the presence of his Spirit and his help when I need him.

Still more importantly, the Bible speaks of men who deserted Jesus, who claimed to be God, and yet these same men went to their death refusing to desert him again.  Why?  Because they had witnessed his resurrection.

None of us have done what is right.  None of us have tried to find God and walked in his way.  All of us deserved to be God’s enemies.  However, God, who is rich in his mercy saved us and restored us to himself.  To as many as receive him he gives the right to be the children of God.  He deposits the Spirit in them as a token of the eternal benefits that they are now beginning to enjoy.

I am to rejoice because God has indeed brought me back from captivity in the land of sin and depravity and he has made me a new person who loves him and is able to serve him with integrity.

Prayer

Father, I need more of you, more of your Spirit, more of your love and more of your integrity.  Thank you for rescuing me and bringing me to the place where you could use me.  Please change me more and use me more.

Father, thank you for raising Christ from the dead by the Holy Spirit power that lives in me.  Truly, nothing is impossible to you.

Show me how I can reach into the lives of others and how I can point them to you so that they give up all to serve you.

IJN Amen
