Are You Fed Up With the Enemy Robbing You?
Posted on 08. Mar, 2010 by Jim Peters in Hearing God - Jim's Daily D
Psalm 74:1-11
1 God, why do you continually (think) we stink[1]?
(Why does) your anger smoke (against) the sheep (that) you look after[2]?
2 Remember the assembly (that) you bought beforehand,
You paid the price to buy back the tribe as your possession,
(And for) this Mount Zion where you have lived.
3 Walk[3] toward the continual ruins,
The enemy has damaged everything in the place that’s set apart for God.
4 (Those who) bring you trouble have roared (like a lion) in the middle of your meeting place;
They have set up their signs as signs (for everyone).
5 They are known to have brought axes[4],
(As if to cut down) a forest of trees.
6 They smashed all carvings (in the temple),
With hatchets and large axes.
7 They burned[5] the Holy Place;
And they polluted the place where your name lives.
8 Deep inside they said, “Let’s completely oppress them.”
And they burned all God’s meeting places in the land.
9 We can’t see our signs;
There’s no longer a prophet;
And there’s no one among us (who) knows (for) how long.
10 God, how long[6] will (those who) trouble us despise us?
(Will the) enemy despise your name forever?
11 Why do you pull back your hand – your right hand?
Take it off out of your pocket[7] and finish them off.
[1] “become odious/stink/forcefully reject” [2] “pasturing/shepherding” [3] “Lift up steps” [4] “know come/bring axe thicket trees” [5] “sent fire” [6] “when/how long as far as when/how long” [7] “boson/garment”
Application
There certainly seems to be more psalms written out of distress than out of pure joy and thanks to God. God uses the hard times to make me aware of my need for him, whereas it’s easier to forget him when things are going well.
The contrast is that when things are going badly, and if God doesn’t act immediately, then I get upset with him and ask where he is.
My challenge is to be intimate with God all day every day, especially when everything’s going well, when I have no glaring need for his help. I need to realise that in him I live and breathe and have my being. Without God, even for a moment, I cease to exist.
The enemy always comes to rob, kill and destroy. If I don’t get him out, he will ruin everything in my life. He will take me away from God. He will break down and destroy every reminder and every place I meet with God. And he will continue to do this until I stand against him. Therefore, I need to make a stand against the devil. I need to come to a place where I say, “No more!” I must call on God to bring freedom and deliverance. I need to recognise that I can’t get the enemy out on my own. He is more powerful than I am but he is no match for Mighty God.
I guess I need to get to the point of being fed up with the enemy plundering my land and I need to ask God to take his hands out of his pockets to push his enemy away from everything to do with me and my family.
Prayer
Father, I hate your enemies and I stand against them in Jesus’ name. I ask for victory over every plan of the enemy against me and my family. I ask that you will stop the locusts from consuming our lives and the things that we have. Please restore what they have destroyed.
Fill me Holy Spirit and let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
IJN Amen
